Upcoming Project
Up next is this lovely dress. I will be doing view A (top right corner) with this polka fabric. Wish me luck!
Work In Progress

Niece Dress
I started this dress for my niece last night. It is going surprisingly well. I guess having only four pieces to deal with plus a few more for the lining (which I should have cut on the fold and didn’t oops!), makes it a whole lot easier to make! I bought these cute buttons, and I love the fabric I picked out. I’m making view A but without the contrasting top or view B without the pockets
.
Below is the fabric for the dress. Isn’t it just too cute? The lighting isn’t that great, but I think you can tell what it looks like.
Bring it On!
The third installment to the Retrievers series, Bring it On by Laura Anne Gilman, was in a word, nice. Frankly, the whole book is a bit of a blur. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it immensely, I just couldn’t pick out anything that truly stood out. I think it was more like reading the equivalent of comfort food. It was not boring nor unpleasant, and very comforting to lay back in my bed with the cooling night and just sip at this book. Wren is still a kick butt female character, the sub plot is still taking forever to shape, and all the factions have yet to be defined. The relationship between Sergei and Wren is not quite evolving and not standing still more like in between. I still find the death of Lee as so much useless plot fodder. Its supposed to have shaped Wren, but I just didn’t see it. I didn’t feel his death in any way. I wasn’t saddened because I just didn’t know the character all that well. If Sergei or P.B. were to die, then I would probably be just as angry and depressed as Wren. These characters, the reader gets to know. The others are just so much periphery.
However, if you have enjoyed the series thus far, I say pick this one up too. You may not even need to read the first few because of the constant reiteration about what happened before (something that pretty much killed the Potter series for my husband and made me skip over whole pages!)
Dress is Complete! (honestly)
Well, if you read my previous post regarding the evil zipper from hell, you’ll probably be a little skeptical of this blog post title. Well, after leaving the dress to lie in a heap on the floor overnight, I decided to give it one more chance. I looked at the rip and realized that it wasn’t that bad. If I folded that area under and re-stitched the zipper I would be just fine. Which is exactly what I did, plus finishing up some of the last few places that were still not stitched together. I posed for a few pictures wearing the dress. I will probably never wear it anywhere. The print really is too overwhelming. Below is a snap shot. You’ll notice some kind of bunching in the front. It’s not my posture. Somehow the lining and the bodice didn’t quite meet up properly, hence the bunching. The sleeves are too big at top and too tight around my arms. I’m just glad it’s done!
I have learned a few lessons, though. I’ve even started on a new dress for my niece. Considering she is a few thousand miles east of here down sunny south Florida, I cannot be sure it will fit. However, the fabric I picked out is way too cute, and I’ll be down there in September to try it on her. We’ll see!
