Waiting [update]

November 28, 2008 at 4:51 pm (Writing) (, )

Waiting for my car right now. I know I promised I would post Eyes in the Dark yesterday but I have been stalling. I wanted to rewrite the battle scene and the ending is rather abrupt and maybe a little too open. I’m afraid there isn’t a sequel either. Once I’m done here I’ll go ahead and post as is. Maybe I will finally get some feedback and I’ll go from there.

Update: I posted Eyes in the Dark on my Books page along with my first novel.

Eyes in the Dark progress

November 23, 2008 at 3:58 pm (Writing) (, )

I will not be posting anymore progress segments of Eyes in the Dark. I am on the home stretch now, and am finding myself going back and inserting stuff in things I’ve already posted. So, in the interest of continuity, I will post the entire finished product under the Books page. I have about 9500+ words to go right now to finish NaNoWriMo. Hopefully, I can also finish the story within that number of words. I don’t know if that will be the case right now. I am sorry if anyone is trying to read it here, but won’t it be such a relief to have it all at once?

Anyway, I’m making great progress right now. My goal is to get as close to 50k as I can today, so next week I can concertrate on Thanksgiving and making Christmas gifts.

Day 21: Continued

November 21, 2008 at 9:08 pm (Writing) (, )

I can’t believe I forgot my flash card again!  Thankfully, I managed to upload my word count before leaving work today, so I managed to catch up once again.  Here’s this evening’s work for Eyes in the Dark.

A car pulled up next Betti Jo as she walked down the sidewalk towards the bus stop.  She did not notice the slow moving car for a few moments.

“Hey, Betti!”

She stopped and turned to find David pacing her in his little sports car yelling through his open window.

Day 21: Behind again

November 21, 2008 at 11:44 am (Writing) (, )

Well, I am still in pain today, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. I decided to try and catch up while at work today. I have not posted day 19 because I was writing a little out of order. Now that I’ve caught up a little and finished the in between stuff, here’s the continuing story of Eyes in the Dark:

“I have one more condition of my own, Ms. Winston. I appreciate that you probably have to operate on a reduced budget when it comes to your attire. I rarely have clients actually come to my office. When they do, I have to present a certain level of class. Frankly, what you’re wearing would not meet those standards. You will have a clothing allowance on top of your regular salary. Consider this an advance on your first month’s clothing allowance.”

WIP: Purple Butterfly dress

November 20, 2008 at 7:54 am (Hobbies) (, , , )

Purple Butterfly dressThis is the second little girl dress and the third Christmas gift.  It is still a WIP.  I still have to hem it and put in the zipper.  You can just make out that I screwed up the stitches that run along the front band.  I’m hoping when I rip out the stitches, a quick wash will eliminate or reduce the appearance of the holes I’m sure will be there since the stitches are so small.  If not I have plenty of the polka dot fabric left so I can fix it then.

Day 18: A short break

November 19, 2008 at 9:56 am (Writing) (, )

Left my flash drive at work, so I worked on one of the dresses I am making for a Christmas present.  I was also giving my hand a rest.  I am having some major issues with my wrists going from typing at work to more typing at home.  Below is small bit I did before leaving work yesterday.

“Luke!  What brings you to this old man’s home?” Elder Wilson said jovially.

“Hi, Uncle.  I was wondering if we could talk about something,” Luke said not noticing that the Elder’s grimace at the familiar term.

“Of course, you’ve always trusted me with you’re deep dark secrets.  Go ahead, tell me your troubles,” Elder Wilson said waving Luke to sit down.

“I’ll go make us some tea,” and he disappeared into the kitchen.

Luke sat down on the worn couch trying to avoid the tears in the leather upholstery.  The Elder made it back with two cups of hot water, the tea bag still floating on top.  Luke took a sip and just barely managed to hid the look of disgust.  He had no idea how long the tea bags had been left out or where.  He put his tea down and faced the old man’s pale eyes.  He was startled to find that particular stare aimed his way.  In moments, the eagle eyes yielded to the softer expression Luke was more accustomed to.

Day 17: Chapter 9

November 17, 2008 at 9:16 pm (Writing) (, )

I am so stoked!  I hit 30k [does happy dance].

She looked right into his eyes at that moment, pleading for him to understand.  What Betti Jo saw in David’s eyes for a brief flash, crushed her, but his words buoyed her back up again.

“I can’t say that I understand all of this, but I want to be with you, Betti.  As long as you want to be with me, I don’t care about anything else.  Thank you for trusting me and telling me all of this,” he stood and walked up to her extending his hand.

Betti Jo took David’s hand and stood.  He tugged gently until she fell in his arms.  She felt safe for the first time in so long.

“Thank you,” she mumbled into his chest.

Chapter 9

After all of the drama, Betti Jo and David could not help but laugh at themselves.  They joked about being on the set of some daytime soap.

“I’m going to go change and then we’ll get something to eat.  Have you had breakfast?” David called over his shoulder on his to bedroom down the hall.

“No, actually.  I hadn’t meant to stay very long.  I was heading back to Pennerton to see if I could find a job.  I don’t think Elder Wilson will be willing to pay for my tuition anymore.”

She shrugged to show that it did not matter to her even though David could see that it mattered quite a bit.

“You need a job?  Well, I might be able to help you.  I have a cousin, Jonathan.  He does consulting work mostly.  He mentioned some time ago that he was looking for some kind of clerical support.  Why don’t I give him a call?  If he’s already found someone, you’ll at least get to him,” David said.

Christmas Gift #2 Done!

November 17, 2008 at 6:54 pm (Hobbies) (, , )

Auntie Regi's Scarf

I finished Auntie Regi’s scarf this weekend.  I like how it turned out quite a bit.  It’s basically umpteen rows of single crochet stitches.  I hope she likes it.  I think it looks rather masculine, but I hope she likes the color palette.

Day 16

November 16, 2008 at 7:09 pm (Writing) (, )

Well inspiration hit and I had tons to write today.  Would have finished tomorrow’s word count if it hadn’t been for the numbness in my hands.  Looks like my wrists don’t like typing in on this laptop.  Here’s today’s and part of tomorrow’s word count.  Enjoy!

She went about her morning routine in haze of misery.  Her affection for both Luke and David warring it out in her head, she headed for the hall bathroom.

“Betti Jo?” Henry called from the living room.

“Yeah, Dad?” she called back from where she stood in the hall.

“I want to talk to you after your shower,” he said.

“Okay,” and she turned and walked into the shower.

She was dreading the upcoming conversation with her father.  Henry was very much aware of the ramifications of last night’s visit.  Elder Wilson had not been happy.  He could withdraw the money he had given her family for school.  That would mean an end to her relationship with David.  After all, there would be no reason for her to ever leave town again.
